We must preserve, protect, defend all our monuments, statues, and honor all the lives lost in every conflict. That IS our history. History is brutal, we must never forget atrocities, or we are bound to repeat them. No matter good, the bad, or the ugly. If history is taught correctly in our schools again, raw and with all its warts, students will come to understand ours is a rich history, despite its flaws. We’ve made great strides as a country since its inception – let’s not let a vocal, bigoted and uninformed few speak for everyone. And don’t be afraid to speak up. Like President Trump authorizing 10 years sentences for destroying monuments, I, if elected to Congress, would file bills to protect our historical monuments against destruction for those found guilty by a jury for those alleged offenses.

The 1776 Report
The declared purpose of the President’s Advisory 1776 Commission is to “enable a rising generation to understand the history and principles of the founding of the United States in 1776 and to strive to form a more perfect Union.” This requires a restoration of American education, which can only be grounded on a history of those principles that is “accurate, honest, unifying, inspiring, and ennobling.” And a rediscovery of our shared identity rooted in our founding principles is the path to a renewed American unity and a confident American future.
